The PGA Coaches package

My PGA Coach’s package will help you as a client-focused PGA Coach expand your own coaching skills, further your knowledge set, generate extra revenue and most importantly improve the learning experience of your students.

Donovan Goosen, Head PGA Professional

“Fantastic stuff Tim. Sensory overload for me. I feel myself reliving each described scenario and realise how far gone I am mentally. Many techniques which i am very good at with students but terrible with myself. 2 days of golfing ahead of me. My thoughts are Pre-shot: targeting and visualisation of shot, Swing: distraction, Post-shot: feedback to myself and Between shots: sensory awareness.

I can’t wait!! Thank you”

You will come to value and appreciate how improving the mental game skills of your students enhances their learning within your own coaching sessions. This places you and your client in the powerful position of sharing an understanding of how instruction is given and how it is best processed by themselves as the student.

I began by saying how the PGA Coach’s programme will enhance your own coaching skills and reputation. This does not mean improving your undoubted knowledge of the mechanical aspects of the golf swing, but rather your ability to support the learning of those mechanics by your students.

As such I am actually referring to the art of coaching itself. Coaching does not need an understanding of swing mechanics. Indeed the best coaches can facilitate learning within any subject or task asked of them using the awareness based learning techniques detailed in The Mental Game Handbook. You will come to appreciate the difference between instruction and coaching and marvel at how your golf instruction improves as a result. As the instructor you must consider the key coaching pillars which mean you will:

  • Build the four stages of learning in to your instruction.
  • Prevent pupils experiencing fear from the wording of your instructions.
  • Place pupils in to an emotional state for learning.
  • Avoid the debilitating culture of “trying”.
  • Appreciate the value of being “in rapport” with a pupil, and knowing how to achieve this.
  • Understand how a client’s self-awareness is vital during your instruction.
  • Know how to set effective SMART goals for the pupil.
  • Advise on processes such as “triggers” to improve on course performance.

"I have not come across anything like this. It has helped me completely change my thinking on the golf course and it has reduced my scores and radically reduced my on course stress. My favourite technique is the in-between shot ‘steps’ technique. Simple yet so distracting!!!"

- JACOB SAUNDERS - on The Mental Game Scorecard and Handbook

"Simple to use but lots of choices and techniques. Some may find some a bit odd, but if you stick with it it does work"

- NICK HAMPTON - on The Mental Game Scorecard and Handbook

"Used it three times now. Makes you look at the game very differently, which I found to be a good thing. One or two things starting to appear in my competitive rounds without even thinking about them. Using mainly techniques for pre-shot routine."

- IAN NOVAK - on The Mental Game Scorecard and Handbook

"I bought this having had a coaching session with Tim. He’s passed on some great advice. Whilst I haven’t tried the scorecard fully yet, I did use it on a par 3 whilst on holiday last week and I have to say I’m looking forward to using it properly."

"I guess I was initially sceptical about ‘mental game’ coaching, however my wife bought me The Mental Game Scorecard for my birthday. I used the guidelines (which are good) and yes, it’s improved my game. Tim is right, we do overlook how to learn to do things naturally. Always relying on YouTube or Golf Channel. Nice to take some responsibility for my game. It’s made a difference, in particular my enjoyment levels. My wife now thinks she’s my coach!!"

- Paul Deveraux - on The Mental Game Scorecard and Handbook

"Wow! The distraction technique is fabulous. Even if that’s the only thing I take from this – which I’m sure it won’t be. I’m starting to practice some of the in-between shot routines, as that’s a weakness of mine. I know what he means by the ego."

- Sally Blackwood - on The Mental Game Scorecard and Handbook
